English Class

Learning English in the university was quite different mostly because I never write any blog in my life of any kind not even in Spanish!  I also thought it was going to be a more heavy class I did expect to be quite stressed for this, but so far it has been a nice class.
While doing the blogs I realized that I'm not good written it's hard for me like I don't know how to start to write something it does take me long to be clear on how I’m going to be writing about, but I do think that use blogs is a really good way to develop the English, for some blogs I did have to investigate and doing that and correcting myself I started to improve my English abilities and skills. But I still feel that there's a lot of things that I have to learn, for example, the grammar part of English, when I say or write something I do tend to do the sentences for how good it sounds and that leads to many mistakes, I also need to learn more vocabulary because I use the same words over and over again (like in the blogs) and a lot of times I want to say something in English but I don't know the word to say it. I'm also very shy when I'm speaking English because there are quite a few things that are hard for me to say out loud.
Outside the class of English, I don't speak much the language, in my daily life the only time that I interact with English is when I see series where the original language is English because I don't like the translation to Spanish.

Chemistry Programme

I think a programme of a career always can be better in any place, because never satisfy all the wishes of the students or teachers. For me the chemistry programme is very good it has a good approach, even though I would reduce hours in some classes like chemistry and society or the introduction to the career of chemistry, these classes are important but they have too many hours that are often unnecessary and take up too much time, time we could use studying for all the other classes that also have many hours, but if this classes didn't have this much hours we couldn't learn everything that we need to learn.
Some of the subjects in the curriculum are different types of chemistry, math and laboratories like General chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, laboratories of inorganic, organic, chemical analysis, a lot of mathematics, mechanics, electives, etc.
The use of technology is pretty average so far, but I think for a university and for these times there is a lack of equipment in laboratories it happens sometimes that some people has to move to another part of the laboratory because they don’t have what is needed for doing what we have to do like, distillation for example.
Every teacher has his own method, there is teachers that follow a power point some just do the class in the board, but everyone is exigent in their own way, I don’t think that exist some teacher that gave you a note as easy we would want. Of course I think there are better teaching methods when I compare them, for example, I thank teachers when they pass material and they immediately make some application of what was seen.

The faculty is very nice for summer because there is plenty of green space and shadow, but in winter it is horrible because there is not a big place for all of us to stay for whatever we want like studying or even have lunch! The buildings and classrooms are quite modern, all rooms have heated air and air conditioning, which is very much appreciated.

My Opinion

It’s important to have an opinion about different things in our reality, that’s why I’m going to answer some question:

• What is your opinion about buying instead of adopting pets?

I don't really understand the people who buy pets, when there are lots of animals in the streets who don't have a home to eat and sleep, there is no need to buy a dog of breed, or an exotic cat, it’s not even that you have to pick up an animal from the streets, there is tons of people who are giving animals because they can't have them in their homes and they gave to you with their vaccinations and sometimes they even go to your house with the pet!

• What is your opinion about having an exotic pet at home?

I think it's pretty dangerous for humans to have an exotic pet at home and for the animal it must be a stressful situation, because most of this animals need to live in the wild, where they have a big land to run and be free. The person who wants this kind of pet also needs a special training, an exotic animal need medical care and for that the owner needs financial resources.

• What is your opinion about Immigration? 

An immigrant is a person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another.

I believe that immigration gives too much to a country, is a way of accept things that maybe we normally wouldn't do and learn about different cultures, the immigrants don’t go to other countries to steal or kill, they don’t commit more crimes than a native-born citizens, I'm very sure if they didn’t have any need probably most of them never would leave their country and their families.

•  What is your opinion about recycling?

According to Eunomia, Germany is the country with the best recycling rate in the world and Chile is not even near to this place. In countries like Germany, Austria and South Korea, they have strict laws for recycling, in Chile we need this king of laws, because recycling and composting are important activities for conserving the environment and reducing waste also recycling helps to reduce: the demand for new resources like minerals, energy use, and air and water contamination.

Thyroid Cancer

Cancer according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is defined as a disease in which abnormal cell divide without control and can invade nearby tissues, cancer cells can also spread to other part of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several types of cancer, like Leukemia, Prostate cancer, Thyroid Cancer and, sadly, there´s a lot more.
Thyroid cancer occurs in the cell of the thyroid a gland based in the base of our neck, the thyroids produce hormones that regulate blood pleasure, body temperature, weight and how quickly food is changed into energy, etc. For example in Woman´s a Thyroid disorder can affect the puberty, menstruation, reproduction, pregnancy, postpartum and menopause.

Thyroid Cancer

Exist different types of Thyroid cancers: Papillary, follicular, medullary, anaplastic and lymphoma thyroid cancer, the first one is the more common and can occur at any age, but often affect people at age of 30 to 50. In the case of medullary cancer sometimes is caused by a change in a gene that is passed from parent to child. Thyroid cancer is more often diagnostic in woman´s.

Even if is not clear what cause the Thyroid cancer there are risk factors, a risk factor is what can increase the possibilities of getting a disease, but that doesn’t mean if you don’t have any one of those risk that you can’t have the illness. In the case of Thyroid cancer some risk factors are:

Goiter (enlarged thyroid)

• Being between 25 and 65 years old.
• Being female.
• Being exposed to radiation to the head and neck as an infant or child or being exposed to radioactive fallout. The cancer may occur as soon as 5 years after exposure.
• Having a history of goiter (enlarged thyroid).
• Having a family history of thyroid disease or thyroid cancer. 

There's no way to prevent thyroid cancer in people who have an average risk of the disease, but Adults and children with an inherited gene mutation that increases the risk of medullary thyroid cancer are often advised to have thyroid surgery to prevent cancer.

Post Graduate Studies

I think it’s too early for me to think in what I’m going to do when or if I finish my career, but I would to like to do a Master of Science specifically in the University of Helsinki in Finland, because that can give a lot of opportunities abroad such as work in different fields like industry, research or education, I mean as a chemist, you can be a part of developing new inventions and serve as an expert in your field, this Master takes two years and is taught in three different idioms English, Finnish, Swedish that’s why I need to speak a perfect English. I don’t know what kind of system they use for teach but I think a blended system it’s the best, because you combine online educational materials and with traditional place-based classroom methods.

University of Helsinki

There’s so many things that universities offer to you here in Chile or abroad that is really difficult and confusing choose one, but the only thing I’m sure about I want to study abroad, because I want to learn new things of many different countries like Finland and how different the education is there and  studying everything that its possible about Chemistry and with luck work in something or in a place that I can be a person that helps in the progress of the Chemistry.

Future Job

 Pick a career for me (I think for many people too) was very difficult I was really confused with what to do with my future, until now I'm still confused regarding my future job, I'm absolute sure about studying Chemistry, I love chemistry that is the strongest reason for me to studying this, also I would like to do a Master of Chemistry. When people ask me what I'm going to do after finish all my studies, I can’t answer right away, I feel like I have many thinks that I could do but weirdly at the same time I feel like there’s nothing.

One thing that I know for sure it's I want travel a lot I wish find a job that can give me those opportunities I'm hoping it could be possibly, maybe as a Laboratory Investigator doing scientific experiments or researches in Environmental Agencies kind of Sierra Club this organization was founded in 1892 is one of the most powerful and effective in America people who fight for the preservation of forest and land, clear air and water and many others stuffs, that could be fun and highly satisfying and could give the chance of work outside with many people and inside of a laboratory more alone. 

The salary, at least for me, it matters because I’m going to live of that obviously I don't expect to be a millionaire but I want to live what people call a ''good and nice life'' with, I hope, not that bad many moments. But I still have time to think and evaluate my possibilities and before find a job I have to fulfill the career.

My Pets

In my family we love pets, dogs, cats, rabbits we even had a guinea pig, my mom always tell me stories about how my grandma took care of cats that were living on the street and maybe as payback the cats always were following her to buy or even to the bus parade and when my grandma died those cats, now much more older, followed my mom now.

My older brother love so much to have pets, I remember when I was three or four having like two rabbits, it was fun and they were so cute, at the same time we used to take care of a dog and i loved him so much and it was weird because I was so scared of dogs (I really had a bad experience with them) , sadly we had to move out of the house, the rabbits ran away also someone else took care of the dog.

Guinea Pig

My mom didn't want to have more pets, because she dint want me to suffering when they go away, we didn't had pets for the following three years but then someone gave to my brother a guinea pig, he was so lovely, I liked play with him, he really gave me company.

Now I have three cats, we love them I always tell to my mom that they are my brother and sisters. One of them, Gomito (his mom was called Gomita), is ten years old he was supposed to be a gift for my cousin but he stayed at my house when he was just a few months old, the other two are just a year old, their name are Nissa and Mocca, they are so playful and all of them are beautiful. Of all the pets we ever had in my house I can’t just choose one, I love them all you can’t leave someone behind.
